Removal of all mold and thorough cleaning of all contents is important to prevent exposure to the occupants of the building. Items are first categorized into two groups – those items that can be cleaned and those that cannot – based upon the guidelines set by an Industrial Hygienist. An inventory is then created by labeling all items and creating a master list.

The processing and storing of personal contents can be completed at an off-site location or on-site. If the on-site option is chosen, a clean processing room is built for the processing and packaging of all personal property. All contents are stored in a climate-controlled area after processing.

During the entire cleaning process, all workers involved in the remediation are uniformed in personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, goggles, and respirators. The use of PPE prevents the transfer of mold to unaffected surfaces and eliminates the possibility of skin contact.
